Artist Elaine Diehl completed this passion project after 13 years and she collaborated with craftsmen from all over the world to create the more than 10,000 piece doll house. Its hard to believe that a doll house can cost $8.5 million but this ain’t no ordinary doll house. This is a work of art that took thousands of hours and many thousands of dollars to produce.
There’s been many high value doll houses sold at auction in the past but in the majority of cases the value is in the history of it. In this case, the value is in the actual content.
The level of detail is nothing short of amazing there’s not a single element that’s been overlooked.
Amongst the many amazing pieces is a miniature grand piano ($7,000) and miniature Jeep ($3,300) and a miniature portrait ($1,840).
The craftsmanship is astonishing and on many of the photo’s you’d be hard pressed to see that its actually a a miniature version of the real thing.
Its called the Astolat Dollhouse Castle and is on display in New York and will do a world tour starting in 2015.
The proceeds will support charities and good causes around the world.
This masterpiece took more than 13 years to construct and the architectural detail is second to none.
The amount of detail in the house is astonishing and includes tapestries, clay pots and even this replica bear rug.
This is a great example of the level of detail. These chairs are cast in gold while the rug and even the flowers are all made exactly to scale.
The outside of the doll house also spared no details with the stone, windows and all the facade details matching perfectly with the overall design. The castle has 29 rooms and stands at more than 9 feet in height.
This project drew on many different people with many different skills to ensure that every detail of the house was correct and to scale. Goldsmiths, silversmiths, glass blowers, and carpenters where involved in contributing different pieces to the project.
The astonishing amount of miniature artworks, decoration pieces and furnishings where not all custom made and many of them where bought from collectors all over the world.
The miniature grand piano in the library is one of the most valuable items and was custom made at a cost of more than $7000.
Even though most of the rooms in the house are fully furnished and decorated, new pieces are still being added to some of the rooms.
Apart from all the regular rooms you will find an a typical stately home, it also includes a wine cellar, a ballroom, and weaponry room – all finished with the same level of detail as the rest of the house.
The Astolat Dollhouse currently has more than 10,000 individual pieces that where either made or commissioned. All the miniature artwork are actual replicas and all the woodwork are hand carved and crafted.
